Does Formby need a skate park?:

Apologies to anyone who's been having trouble uploading events to the events calendar. There have been a few problems recently that have been fixed with a software update on My Formby. If you've had problems uploading events, we suggest you try again now. GCSE and A level Results

A small note to say good luck and congratulations to anyone from Formby High or Range High getting or have got their GCSE results today and congratulations to the A level students who will have picked theirs up last week. Hope they're all good!

Classified Ads now active!

We've been working towards getting Classified Ads working on the site over the past few days, and we've just installed a module onto the site which should make it all possible. Here's how to do it:

  1. If you've got an item to sell, or you want an item, you can post it in the Classified Ads section by using the link under 'Primary links' to the left of the site.
  2. If you're not already a member here at My Formby, you'll need to register an account. It's really simple, and only takes a couple of minutes. To do so, go here http://www.my-formby.co.uk/user/register.
  3. The adverts are set to last 60 days. If you need to extend this, just use the contact form and we'll be happy to extend it by a reasonable amount.
  4. It's totally free and is only available for residents and businesses in Formby, or are happy to deliver/collect the item to/from Formby.

New Poll

Hello Visitors!

Following debate as to whether to allocate money set aside for a skate park in Formby to other projects, namely a visiter centre and play area at Lifeboat Road, we've refreshed our poll to the left of the site. The question we're now asking you is: Does Formby need a skate park?

We'd love to hear what you think about this, so if you want to comment, you'll need to register an account with us which takes the best part of a minute, and click the comment link underneath the Poll on the left.

Sponsored Walk Progress Update

Andy has finished plotting his route for the sponsored walk we wrote about earlier in the year. Turns out 3,500 miles was a slight underestimation and the walk will actually be no less than 5,262 miles.

He is visiting 412 newspaper offices and 310 radio stations over a period of about 8 and a half months, starting up here in the North of England.

We'll keep you updated on his progress, and will be sure to make it known on My Formby when he starts.

If you'd like to support Andy, please visit his website at www.aboutms.co.uk

Slight redesign

Over the past week, we've been working on a few updates to make the site a little bit easier to use and navigate. We've done this by moving to a new system which lets us manage the content we display here a lot more easily, which hopefully will let us - and you - improve the quality of My Formby.
You'll have to bear with us as we put back any missing content, but by the end of this week, everything should be available again.
If you've got any suggestions at all, you can now post comments regarding certain articles or announcements by using the comments feature attached to supported text. Try it out on this post, let us know what you think!

Thanks for visiting.

Squirrel Pox Outbreak

Save Our Squirrels' has issued an urgent request to all Formby residents and visitors to help reduce the spread of the squirrel pox disease in Formby.

The recent outbreak in Formby is being transmitted by grey squirrels, whose numbers have risen recently in Formby and the surrounding areas. Grey squirrels are immune to the disease but they carry the disease to the red squirrels, to which it is deadly.

'Save Our Squirrels' has supplied a list of ways in which you can help:

* Ring 0151 920 3769 if you see a sick or dead red squirrel
* Or report it ot the National Trust Kiosk at Victoria Road.
* Do not handle sick animals.
* Help us to control greys by reporting any that you see locally.
* Clean or remove bird tables or squirrel feeders, to reduce infection.

For more information, please visit: www.saveoursquirrels.org.uk.

Walk in aid of Multiple Sclerosis

We've just received an e-mail from Andy Monk asking for our support in a walk stretching across England in aid of two very worthwhile Charities helping to improve the lives of people living with Multiple Sclerosis by working towards treatment for the disease.

Andy will be visiting every Newspaper office and Radio station in England later this year, a walk which is a staggering 3,500 miles in total raising funds for the Accelerated Cure Project and The British Trust for the Myelin Project.

If you'd like to support Andy, you can sponsor him at his site, www.aboutms.co.uk.

We'd like to wish Andy the best of luck, and we'll try and keep you informed of his progress when he begins later this year.
